If you haven’t heard the news, a couple of weeks ago on Fark I found out that JJ Abrams owns the rights to Steven Kings Dark Tower opus. It’s got cowboys, shooting, wizards, AI powered trains, robots, vampires, psychics, swearing, sex, and shooting. Oh my, I don’t know about you but I feel feint. There are a couple of problems, hurdles if you will, till the Gunslinger starts to chase the Man in Black across the desert on an Imax near me.
Apparently this JJ Abrams character does other things. He puts out this show Lost you may have heard of it. He’s not doing another movie till it’s done with it’s last season. I guess I’ll wait for that. However, they’re also in talks for a Star Trek Sequel already. Frankly, while I enjoyed the new movie imensly and I’ve seen more than my fair share of Trek–and I have a lot of seasons of different flavors of Trek available to me. I’ve never even touched deepspace nine and I’ve only seen like 5 epsisodes of Enterprise. I want some Gunslinger now. And I want it to feel like Unforgiven, Shawshank Redemption, Lord of the Rings all gang banged the new Star Trek and no one knows who the daddy is. This comic is my plea. Please make a trek Sequel, but give us Roland of Gilead first. And then you can spend the next 15-20 years making a Star Trek then Dark Tower movie every other year. Congrats JJ Abrams king of the nerds.

Watch Deep Space Nine.. it’s worth it. Definitely my favorite out of the series.
I don’t know if I like the idea that the dude that produces that clusterfuck known as Lost has rights to anything moderately cool. All that would end up happening is 1000 convoluted plot twists that lead back to themselves and you end up at the beginning tired and exhausted, except you’re missing three or four red shirts
Isn’t there a severe lack of Patrick Stewart in DS9 though and it’s your favorite?
Strife have you seen new Star Trek? Magic did in fact happen.
Original series –> Ds9 –> Next Gen —> Enterprise –> Voyager
New movie was pretty damn good.
Eff the fourth Dark Tower book.
That is all.
Voyager > Enterprise
I didn’t care much for the original series.. but I’m a lot younger (23) so the effects were a bit cheesy by the time I finally saw it.
The new movie was awesome, can’t wait for the sequel.
Voyager > Enterprise

first
So,
I see that there is debate here.
Yes, Voyager > Enterprise.
Yes Next Gen > O.S. > Ds9
Yes, eff Wizard and Glass.
Also, i’d like to say that I really don’t think that the dark tower would be something i’d enjoy or even would like to see on film. Its one of the best series of books I’ve read in my short lifetime, but I still feel that its TOO Epic to make a film series of it regardless of who the crew is. I think that there is a great many things that they would do incorrectly (i.e the slow mutants) and I’m a LOST fan. I really don’t think JJ Could do wrong, but if they want to do this right, do it on the sci/fi channel where it will get the proper attention, much like BSG did.
Nice, I’m reading the dark tower series right now and it’s awesome.
Smith when you said scifi I had an immediate flash of giant ants, but then when you added bsg I realized you meant as a TV series. I supposed that would be doable. I still think it will do well in theaters if done right. Also I liked Wizard in Glass a lot. Maybe several hundred pages of character development flash back is gratuitous, it had it’s own plot so works as it’s own story too. I enjoyed it.
I am still waiting for the nerd rage that calls out Matt for using the term “Trekkies” over Trekkers. I don’t watch Star Trek at all but I know that is a hot point. Lost is good television but seriously…effin time travel???? Nothing creates more holes in a plot or throws band aids on big plot holes more than time travel. Once introduced it is the answer to all and the question to all. Once Lost introduced time travel into the equation I went back to different strokes re-runs.
I’m also concerned with this. JJ seems to like BIG movies, i feel the DK series would need to be very dark – similar to Unforgiven as someone pointed out.
Also lol @ AFRowe
I agree with “Strife.” J.J. Abrams has this tendency to start really cool projects (Lost, Alias), and then turns them over to other, less capable hands, and the original spirit and urgency of the shows gets “lost” along the lines. Anyone who does a movie interpretation of the DT series needs to be committed for the long haul. I think the best format to give the series justice would be a mini-series with a filming schedule like Lord of the Rings, using the same actors, maintaining context and consistency with the books. Hopefully J.J. won’t screw it up, as the Dark Tower series has the potential to be one of the baddest-assed movies ever!
Lucky you didn't put your gunslingers in brown because the Whedonites would hunt you down and, in their ignorance, accuse Clint Eastwood of being a cheap rip off of their favourite…..
Unfortunately, I'm probably right!
