In other news, Apple officially announced their new product the iPad! Horray for people who don’t already have an iPhone or an iTouch and horray for anyone not interested in using a tablet for drawing or painting. This “new” gadget brings everything together from the iPhone/iTouch and makes it better on a larger screen! CHA-CHING! Thats the sound of innovation falling flat on its face. Yes, innovation has a bag of coins for a face.
In all fairness, its much cheaper than a “real” tablet pc and you can touch the screen for all the fun you get out of doing that. This new toy is basically for the general public, its key features being websurfing, reading ebooks, playing games, listening to music, watching movies and a touch screen. If you touch it too much, you may wear it out, be sure to wear goggles for extended periods of time you may go blind. I’m pretty sure thats in the fine print somewhere.
If Apple comes out with something close to a Wacom CintiQ 21UX for much cheaper than 2 grand, I’d be all over that. As it stands, I’m enjoying my reliable Intuos3 and some occasions I use my lenovo x200 tablet pc when traveling. In more cases I kick it oldschool with these classic tools – paper and pencil.
Are you more interested in an affordable tool like Wacom products or are you more interested in a toy such as the iPad/iTouch/iPhone? The alternative as the comic depicts, classic toys can be found at the local Goodwill or your closest pack rat.
ipad looks retarded…expensive giant ipod touch. how can it be better than netbooks at writing emails if it doesn't have a good keyboard, except for an external one that it comes with making it just as heavy (or as light?) as a netbook. webbrowsing – it doesn't have flash so until html5 becomes huge that's kinda useless. it's using a smartphone os when it's clearly bigger than a smartphone…and can't do background applications making the 1ghz chip rather useless…theres no HDMI output making the video abilities worse than a Zune HD…theres no webcam so you can't do video chats..theres no stlyus so you can't really draw or write on it either. and it doesn't have an eink display so it's not better at showing books than an ereader. instead of combining everything and making it it better like steves job says, it puts it all together and makes it worse. at least the HP slate runs a pc operating system.
the 10 hour battery life is nice however. probably because you can only run one app at a time though (not even a program..an app meant for a 3.5 inch screen)

It seems like it was intentionally designed not to do anything useful. I imagine trying to hold it and use it as a book/magazine will be an ergonomic nightmare. And typing on it on it you'll either have to lay it in your lap while reclining (where your fat gut will be in the way/do the typing for you.) or you lay it on the table and crane your neck to look at what you're doing.
I agree with Matt… its going to be a giant cluster.. and it serves no other purpose other than for apple to try and suck more money out of iits consumers because it is exactly like an itouch or iphone…. thats why i have given up on apple… once you buy your item, its worthless three months later because they have put out another one that has just one other feature that is slightly better than yours or a bigger harddrive…. OH, and great Silence reference, laughed my ass off!!
Whoa, what a mouthful. Sure it fails at all those things, but can you run your oily fingers all over your current tool and make it do the same things?
of course. it's called an ipod touch. or an iphone. but not as heavy! my nokia internet tablet from 3 years ago could do multiple programs running. and pen/finger pressure! can't touch this

You guys miss the point. You view the iPad with an extremely narrow perspective. This is exactly why it took Windows its 7th try before working the way it should, because all the nerds care about are tech specs and useless features before its functionality even functions. ; 3
Apple is onto something here. Apple doesn't care about elitist geeks that blow loads of semen over PC gaming. They care about the general population of the world enough to build a working gadget that requires no training or learning curve. You know, people that aren't elitist computer using tech junkies? People like your grandma and my kids? Pretty much 75% of the entire population. You fail to realize that computer savvy people only make up a tiny percentage of the world.
Look at the Wii. Everyone bashed it. Everyone said it would fail. Everyone said it would NOT sell. Now looky! Parents, girlfriends, grandparents, little iddy biddy teeny boppers, they all either have or want one.
Same concept applies to iPhone. You all bashed. You laughed. You all said "APPLE SUXOORRZ. and iPHONE WIL FAAIL!!!" Now you all just look stupid.
I have no doubt in mind that you guys will look even more stupid after iPad comes out, because even though it will sell fifty times more than your irrelevant "Elitist Tablets ever will," You'll continue hating on Apple, on the iPad, and pretty much on anyone that decides that they want one for the pure fact that it does what THEY need it to do and not what some asinine computer geekanoid nerdy prick needs. So have fun spewing garbage. It just won't change the fact that over 9 million people not only own an iPhone, but love it to death. It won't change the fact that our culture looks to Apple for exactly what they do best. Making gadgets for the "regular human," not for the "demi-gods of technology."
I liked the Wii when it came out. I got bored when no more good games came out for it. Also does this mean I can have your Light Bright?
Let me start off with, I own an iPhone and a Wii. Apple is only “on to” making money and this iPad, IS a money maker for the general public. I didn't miss the point AppleGood. Good thing you were reading, because I clearly stated this new product was for the general masses. I covered the points you so failed to read… Just like Apple, you've failed to comprehend the meaning of a tablet. (In this case we're not talking about the tablet that Moses threw on the ground.) This isn't an Apple bash fest. It’s more along the lines of would I get this new toy or would I prefer a useful drawing tool.
Did you also think about who's posting the blog, Matt and I have our own little avatars next to the blog as to who is talking. I am the artist and would be more aware of the product that would be used for drawing. This little toy is not the right tool for drawing/painting digitally unless you enjoy rubbing one out. The elitist tablets that are "irrelevant" are quite relevant for the simple fact that THIS is a comic drawn in a digital form and displayed digitally on the internet. Thank you very much.
