Don has moved on. Straight Face Comics will be solely created by myself for the time being. As of right now, I’m going to put the Straight Facing on hiatus for a little bit. The site will remain up as will the archive. We site creative differences in terms of the ongoing comic and where we were headed with it. We may work together again someday on some other project there’s still very much man love between the two of us, just not this one. I still want to work on a web comic, I don’t know if it’s this one. I’m going to take some time to familiarize myself with a tablet and coloring my own art and I’ll come back with something. I don’t know what it will be yet. I have a fondness for a lot of the characters we created over the past year and half so we may see them again. I’m not sure but in essence it will be a different comic whatever it is. I’ve had nothing but a blast writing comics, and actually having something of mine produced, so I don’t intend to stop. This isn’t goodbye, this is seeya soon. Check back in with me. And if you’re an artist and you think you have a ball park similar sense of humor and want to do a guest comic, or maybe even do some correspondence about starting a comic or project with me let me know ( straightfacecomics@gmail.com ). Thanks for all the support everyone has given me the whole way especially Tina and my rag tag daily comment crew. I couldn’t have done it for so long without you guys.

Casey Afflek came out and said his and Joaquin’s skatfest is in fact a shammentary. Now Joaquin is schedule to go back on lettermen after his Kaufmen-esque drug addled appearance last year. I guess we’re all going to have to live without future Joaquin rap albums. :/

One PAX Complaint

I spent most of my PAX time n the board game check out hall. And thus I ran the risk of the filthiest bathroom at the Con. There may be some exaggeration in the comic, but there were floaters abound.

I did break away from my gaming to go see the exibition floor. I would like to give you the scoop on Duke Forever and Portal 2 but there were lines, ugly long lines. Two minutes of footage unless it’s like proof of the alien life that were video taping the big bang, will never get me to wait in a line. Both booths also had scads of security, so these booths felt like two unfriendly soars in a otherwise happy con. I know that sort of thing is old hat at E3 but it really rubs against PAX’s hands on gamer first approach.

I had other booths by contrast when I went over and asked about something they’d give me my own game play demo and tell me what’s going on as it happens. Even Square-Enix was holding an ad-hoc Q&A for the gamer traffic that was gathering around the new Final Fantasy MMO Demo reel.

Ok Back to my board game addiction!

Here’s what I played that I’d recommend:

Castle Panic: Co-op everyone against the board till then end when scoring happens.

Ultimate Werewolf: Plays best at a party/when you have 11 and up, was a real favorite of the con though, laughs were had by many. I was using the silent voting with head to head lynch votes. This seemed to work well, we’re a mean spirited crowd.

Betrayal at the House on the Hill: Now I own this game, and we still ended up playing it, that says something. Also the new edition is coming out early October.

Neuroshima Hex: Played this twice, super competative strategy game. Probably the most fun I’ve had with cardboard chits.

Ascension Chronicle of the Godslayer: Now this game right off the bat disinterested me based on serious face title. The game and the lore on the cards seem boring. That being said, the game play rivals my con favorite last year Dominion. It’s like if Texas Holdem and Dominion fucked. I played this on the train back about 4 times. I was sad we all got tuckered out and couldn’t play another game.

I’m sorry for my resent absence in the blog department. I took the train to Pax this year so this added a day to both sides of the trip. It was a 24 hour train ride of booze, magic, and board game glory. I played a little fourth edition DnD, a load of card games, lost big in a Magic the Gathering Draft, and trade some beef jerky for some vodka. This was all before the train arrived to Seattle. If you have the time and a back that can take a little abuse from strange sleeping positions, I definately recommend riding the train.

Now I’m not a big Potter fan. But the Harry Potter Tri-Wizard Drinking Tournament and Pub crawl was pretty awesome. As team Slytherin we did RP as the scumbags yelling things like Snape killed Dumbledore and Dumbledore is Dead IRL to the other teams. There was a drinking challenge where I split and mixed a Long Island with a Screwdriver. This drink started off my night well. This takes us to about Thursday night Friday morning in my Pax journey I will include more of my trip in Monday’s blog. Stay tuned.
